The best black metal album ever
I class myself as someone who has a varied taste in music but have always preferred the heavier stuff. I spent most of the nineties in the wilderness, due to the saturation and over-exposure of middle of the road, guitar sound out of a packet, so called metal from the USA. Then I heard this. I was totally blown away by it’s ability to be at the same time both beautiful and brutal. The arrangements, song writing and atmosphere are enhanced by the lo-fi (but not in the darkthrone, recorded down a phone line, kind of way) production. Every track is a classic. In a nutshell - The greatest ever black metal album, by the greatest ever black metal band. Everyone should own a copy.

The calm before the storm
Maybe they were trying to counteract the negativity towards the previous (exactly what it says on the tin) album, “The dark ride”. They have gone for an altogether more upbeat feel to “Rabbit don’t come easy”. Now, I really liked “the dark ride” and felt that they were moving in an interesting direction and feel that this album is a step backwards into their cheesy 80’s style of song writing. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I don’t like “Rabbit don’t come easy”, it’s just that because it was followed up by the amazing “The keeper of the seven keys – The Legacy” album, it felt like the calm before the storm. Everyone’s entitled to an off day & there is still a lot to recommend this album. “Just a little sign” “Open your life” & “never be a star” are all excellent tracks. So, ignore my negativity, & buy it anyway.

Shouting does not an extreme metal album make.
Sorry, I just don't get it. Musically this band tick all the right boxes, but like a lot of bands in the so called extreme metal world, they are let down by some seriously piss poor vocals. Now I like the cookie monster style when it's done right (Amon Amarth, Opeth etc), and I'm a big fan of black metal (Emperor, Taake, Burzum)so I'm not an old git (yet). But this is just shouty.
