Miele Complete C3 Extreme PowerLine Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner 1600W Black

Improved design gives great suction

Bought to replace a ten year old example with a larger 2200 watt motor. Miele have made some improvements to the design since then. The on/off switch is easier to operate and the compartment where the tools live has a lid that is less likely to come off its hinges. Suction power seems greater than the old machine and is more than enough. Great to have the extra suction should you need it. The C3 is the same basic machine but different model variations reflect the alternative tools available. I bought t the turbobrush with this unit and this is more effective and easier at cleaning carpets than the standard floorhead. A worthwhile tip is to buy a HEPA filter which noticeably improves the dust retention and curbs unpleasant smells. I bought a pattern third party filter not made by Miele for £6. I now have the equivalent of a "Cat and Dog" machine. This model is now obsolete. Later versions have a 1200 watt motor but I would imagine the suction is still more than adequate. The latest model has the 900 watt motor as made compulsory by EU rules from Sept. 2017.

Lite-On iHAS124 DVD Writer Optical Drive

Excellent value. Performs well

Performs well and is quieter than most DVD drives. At first it would not recognise a blank DVD disk but this was a problem with the latest Windows update altering a registry setting. Found the answer on Microsoft forums. Probably specific to my pc. Really no need to buy anything better

Draper EXPERT 61464 Digital Electronic 48w Soldering, Solder Iron Work Station

Good value soldering station

First impressions are that the unit is very solid - the weight is impressive. This makes it stable in operation. The stand for the soldering iron seems to clip on either side of the unit. In reality it only fits on the left hand side. The iron connects to the base unit via a DIN plug. It can come loose when using it so some care is needed in making sure it is positively pushed in. If you're not used to a temperature controlled iron it is a real boon to use. No problems with over heating and heat up times are quick. It is only supplied with a pencil tip for fine work. The purchase of an angle or chisel point is a must. They can be difficult to obtain, but a Duratool 48w bit will fit, providing you cut it to the same length as the Draper with a hacksaw.
