Great book! The condition is excellent:...
Great book! The condition is excellent: the binding is solid and the dust cover is in great shape, with no tears or creases. It's also a first edition, which is a nice touch. I can't wait to make these recipes!
Audrey at Home : A Kitchen Table Biography by Luca Dotti (2015, Hardcover)
20 Aug, 2017
More than Just Recipes
Audrey Hepburn's son Luca has put together a delightful collection of rare photos, amusing anecdotes and interesting recipes in this book. You will find pre-World War II favorites served by his grandmother, quick meals Audrey whipped up as a young actress in her first apartment and family favorites from the 60's up to the time of his mother's death in 1993. These are not "fussy" epicurean recipes; they are simply good home cooking, with plenty of emphasis on fresh ingredients. We learn that Audrey was devoted to a good dish of pasta--who would have thought that she was able to maintain her svelte figure eating all that spaghetti? If you enjoy a glimpse into the life of a legendary actress, plus a bevy of recipes suitable for everyday family meals and/or for entertaining, you will enjoy this book. I know I did!
Tea Fit for a Queen: Recipes & Drinks for Afternoon Tea - Hardcover - GOOD
20 Aug, 2022
Tea for Everyone, not just the Queen!
While most of us will never have the experience of having tea with the Queen, this little book may be the next best thing. The very notion of "afternoon tea" conjures up a setting where cups of piping hot tea and delectable little sandwiches and pastries are served on fine china. The photos and recipes in this book will show the reader exactly how to prepare a refined afternoon tea of this very sort. A proper tea should include sweet and savory treats, and those are all included here, from classics such as Coronation Chicken Rolls and Bakewell Tart, to newer specialties like Mushroom Filo Tartlets and Rose Petal Almond Cake. Readers wishing to make their own condiments will surely enjoy Summer Berry Curd and Whiskey Marmalade. For those who are not fans of tea, recipes are also included for classic lemonade, iced tea and a refreshing champagne cocktail. Interspersed with the recipes are photos of historical English palaces, with brief anecdotes of their royal occupants. (Did you know that traditional Dundee Cake, originally created for Mary, Queen of Scots, doesn't include cherries because she didn't like them?) The recipe ingredients are given in British measurements, which may be a drawback for some readers, but thanks to the internet, the quantities are easily converted. I had no trouble preparing any of the treats or beverages featured here. The only problem I had with this book was that, at 126 pages, it wasn't long enough! I could have happily gone along with another hundred pages, because it was so enjoyable and I definitely recommend this book as a wonderful introduction to the custom of afternoon tea.
