Ideal basic cheap underwater startup kit with the housing included in buy.
I bought this because I was looking for a reasoably priced underwater camera and casing for a starter set. The buy now price was very good and I saw that some decent underwater photos could be taken with this camera even though it is only 4MP which is low for camera's these days (Jun 11). In this respect my purchase met all my needs. The drawbacks I have found however are that the xD cards are pricey compared to other camera memory cards and they can only be read by using a reader to USB which also then causes new issues - an SD card would have been able to be read by a palm held organiser. Also there is no manual White balance (just an Auto or set topic settings) nor is there a dedicated underwater setting which many compacts do have and would have compensated for the reduction of the red spectrum underwater - this probably could be overcome by my buying a screw on red filter - at half the price I paid again but would probably be worth it. Finally the battery was not good at holding power - it would run out midway through my afternoon dive each day - some of this could be down to the age of battery though - but it may also be because even in the 'shutdown' mode (you have to leave it power on whilst its in the underwater casing) it may be drawing on the power. I cannot compare this with any other underwater set up though the camera does not compare really any better than to my old canon ixus or my current sony digital compact. I have been advised for underwater set ups to look at Canon and/or Panasonic but they will be newer and more expensive and as I said before this is ideal for a starter package and for a happy basic underwater photographer rather than someone who is looking for magazine quality pics.

Good product for the price paid.
The only thing that would have made it better was to have a couple of USB ports too but then that would have made it more expensive. Ten surge protected sockets in a solid upright, for a good price - happy.
