Back to reality - photography as it used to be.
Back in the 70's I had a Praktica LTL3. I added a wide angle and a zoom and took pictures. When the shutter release froze after maybe ten years, I junked it. Tried a few others such as Olympus and Canon. Ended up with Nikon F65 and later updated to D50.
I miss the weight of solid lenses with aluminium tubes and real glass elements.
There is something soul-less about super computed plastic photos.
So a later version of the LTL, namely a MTL 5B is reminding me of what it used to be like. Both retailed at about £50 when new.
Annoyances on this particular example:
The lens mount was loose. This is easily fixed by removing the plastic trim from the mounting ring. (a thin screwdriver inserted a couple of mm between the aluminium ring on the outside and the trim, best at the topmost point and gently lever the trim out). The lens mount securing screws will now be visible and can be tightened, using some thread-lock if available. Refit the trim.
The flash adapter shoe was loose. This is held on by three screws hidden below a small sprung cover. Using a needle, the front of this trim can be raised allowing the trim to slide out towards the rear. Tighten the screws, and slide cover back.
So even when the body dies and is not worth repairing, the lenses have a charm of their own and can be used in a rather basic way even on DSLR's.
Happy snapping!

Ahh! my sore fingers...
1 of 1 found this helpful These strings are a welcome relief from round wound strings on a bass. The medium length is perfect for a violin bass.
