"Does what it says on the tin"
I bought it only for one reason because; "The Osmo Base provides a 1/4" thread underneath for mounting on tripod". Yes, you can mount it on tripod, but I do not recommend it because the gimbal doesn't stand sturdy in the base. finally the base provides a platform for your gimbal to stand upright, and that's why it was made. :)
