Mixed Emotions
There are really good songs on this album: "Swinging" and "Room at the Top" being the best in my opinion. But I'm shocked it got released because its such a bad Heartbreakers record. Echo might have been released as a Tom Petty solo album which would make sense at least. But it is so sad and personal to Tom I don't see how the band didn't say something about it not being anything to do with them. There are actually songs I hate on it and quite a few. As Tom put it: there was no one driving.

Like a Diamond
2 of 2 found this helpful His records are all pretty uneven and the choice of songs on this one are as uneven as ever. However its always an evolving Tom though he does seem to be getting more southern with every album. The winner here is definitely "Like a Diamond" replete with Beach Boys oo ee oo harmonies. I bought this cd just for this song and the others will take some time to appreciate, but I'm sure I'll get there eventually.
