Poor show from Hornby Flying Scotsman.
A model costing those level price point should not gave the issues I had to sort out. Namely the quality of soldering was such that the model failed to operate after an hour of running. Due to shoddy installation and soldering of the motor. Also, the tender wheels are not rotating freely over the track as they should. A technician I know fixed the motor issue. It remains to be seen whether or not the tender wheels can be made to roll freely over the track without them skidding and skating stuck as the loco drags the tender along behind it.

A marvelous two hour treat. Not just for for model soldier/history buffs!
Released in 1970, WATERLOO is a remarkable film in which director Sergei Bondarchuk assembled an all-star cast of major acting talent and extras in their thousands, in an epic telling of one of history's greatest and most significant battles. In one afternoon on June 18th 1815 the army of Emperor Napoleon Bonapart, in his last, desperate bid to seize outright power over Europe, was met on the fields of Waterloo, Belgium by the British Army commanded by the Duke Of Wellington and Britain's Prussian allies under General Blucher. Despite being just over two hours' long, the film does well to highlight the story of Napoleon's final gamble. His escape from exile on the island of Elba, his re-establishment as ruler of France and his fateful march into destiny and ultimate defeat. Set with a rousing music score soundtrack by Nino Rota, the battle itself is masterfully filmed and choreographed with wonderful details, whirling cavalry charges and spectacle as colourful as the uniforms of the day. The Russian Army of 1970 provided the manpower to re-enact the amazing-looking armies of all sides in the battle and the set-pieces of fighting that result are a visually stunning illustration of how this era of warfare must have looked. The historical facts are, by necessity compressed but the movie, overall, doesn't bog the viewer down with an overlong history lesson either. Christopher Plumber's Wellington is played throughout with icy coolness and understates the outrageously snobbish disdain the Iron Duke had, in real life, for his rank and file soldiery. A contrasting foil to Rod Steiger's over-the-top, firey and complex portrayal of Napoleon; who, in an earlier sequence, weeps goodbye to his loyal Imperial Grenadier "Old Garde" soldiers as his children. There is stirling acting support from the cast of both camps but the heart of the film is the portrayal of the battle itself. Over an hour long, it is both vividly beautiful to look at and stunning in its spectacle. No modern CGI here. Thousands of very real Russian soldiers and just as many horses were drafted in to don the uniforms and recreate the battle as closely as it must surely have looked. WATERLOO, on its release in 1970 was described by one critic as being "Very entertaining but dreadfully inaccurate". This is unfair. There are libraries of books on the subject for those who want the absolute facts. WATERLOO is not an inaccurate work of fiction but puts the key facts into the story and deserves praise as a cinematic milestone among war movies; and deserves to be viewed and enjoyed by everyone. Whether with an interest in the era of Napoleon or not. Thoroughly recommended!
