Solid movie but not Walhberg's best
I'm definitely a fan of Mark Walhberg's work having seen several of his more recent films, and as a result bought this for my own collection believing it to be worth owning without seeing the movie beforehand.
The film develops into a pretty obvious revenge plot after a woman is gunned down in the opening scenes, apparently after being in the wrong place at the wrong time. We soon learn she was the foster mother of four of this part of Detroit's most lost causes, whom she took under her wing when no-one else would give them a home. We are reminded of this fact throughout the movie as she appears infrequently in the minds of our quartet of males offering flashbacks of endearing words.
However, could there be more to the killing than we are initially led to believe?
The four tough brothers reunite in their old Detroit neighbourhood with revenge on their minds, seemingly due to the lack of Police investigative effort based on their troubled pasts - Mark Wahlberg plays the aggressor and leader, Bobby. His brother, Angel (Tyrese Gibson) has a love interest with a highly-strung Latina girlfriend (Sofi Vergara). Garrett Hedlun plays the young rock star pretender and Outkast's Andre 3000, Benjamin, is the family man whose strained mob connection may link him to the killers.
The movie is a little slow to get going and doesn't have the kind of gripping, edgy action of "Heat" by Michael Mann to give the action scenes that extra authenticity, however things do warm up towards a climax with a twist.
Walhberg is in good form throughout, although the brothers' actions seem to go a little unchecked in their initial efforts to extract information from local informants. The soundtrack is great and often sets the scene featuring several 70's Motown classics.
This is a good movie and worth seeing, but not that memorable and only a see-once effort. Not a worthy addition to your DVD collection in my opinion.

At last... a PROPER Batman movie!
Yes Yes YES! If you, like me, were wondering if the movie makers were EVER going to make a 'proper' Batman movie, well this is undoubtedly it and the wait is over!
To start, what's clever is the background build-up to explain the 'Batman' phenomenon and very believable it is too. Great special effects and stellar performances from Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman add to the authenticity. Certain rainy sequences remind me of the movie Blade Runner - there's even a starring role from Rudger Hauer who starred in Blade Runner as the scheming boss of the latter-day Wayne Enterprises.
The movie is fast-paced with plenty of action, gradually building on Batman's struggling early attempts as a masked crusader, to a honed razor-sharp force fighting the sinister forces which threaten Gotham City. The movie builds to a nail-biting climax of events which clearly lead the viewer to expect more from this latest and best Batman franchise.
The next movie will undoubtedly be a MUST SEE! Ensure you add this movie to your DVD collection - it's one you can view over and over and still find good stuff to smile about!
