Nice and QUIET
4 of 4 found this helpful One of the best things about 2960G-8TC-L is that it's fanless. It's the only enterprise class access switch Cisco makes that is. LIke a lot of network admins we prefer to run the same type or brand of equipment at home that we do at work, but, unless we have a nice insulated data closet or IDF at the house, the fan noise from even one switch or router is enough to put the kibosh on the whole idea. This little gem is perfect. It appears to work quite well as an air-cooled unit. Just don't crowd it and leave a couple of inches free space around it for airflow. It won't run advanced IP services, but it is compatible with release 15.0.2-SE9 IP BASE, which is the most recent as of this writing. I replaced one of my noisy old WS-C2950-12's with this one and I'm *very* happy with the result. In fact, I'm going to add another one to my network.
