Awesome "Space Saga/Opera"
The Hensen company, which brought you the Muppets, created what is now cult hit. I have seen most of episodes more than twice. The characters are very colorful, which is the point. The acting can sometimes be over the top, which is also the point. A lot of the episodes are meant to be spoofs of other space flicks. But, with their own little, often awesome twist. Hensen also brings a weird, colorful variety to these characters like he did with his beloved (by us slightly more mature GenXers who remember them) Muppets. I also think that this series is what inspired the later Star Trek: Voyager t.v. series. Astronaut flung across the universe & as lost as his home is to him. Having to voyage across space, finding strange new species & adventures as he tries to find his way home. In time, making friends, finding love & a NEW home that slowly makes him realize that as long as he's been trying to get home, he may already be there. I still have to watch Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, but this will always remain one of my favorite series, along with Firefly.

Different
A decent movie. Different from most space/alien movies. A little too simplified & predictable. They could have made the aliens or reason for not going back a little more "deep". Overall tho, it wasn't that bad.

More for nostalgia
I saw this movie originally when I was my son's age. He is 16 & is named Gavin after Sir Gawain, King Arthur's noblest knight. It was originally a long epic poem, has been translated by J.R.R. Tolkien from Old English into modern English & is, I believe, one of the oldest (if not the oldest) written poems. I've read it in both old & new English. Sean Connery & the rest of the cast does a good job bringing the poem to life. It is definitely dated & not for the younger generations. I prefer the classics. I love the John Carter & Conan series, the hollow earth sagas, Tarzan (the original), the Time Machine & many other classics. I read this when I was 16 & loved it so much that when my son was born in 1999 (12 years later) I named him after one of my earliest heroes. It was better than Tarzan. And even when I think back today about how every Knight in Arthur's court would not stand up to take the Green Knight's challenge, but this young squire was brave enough (today it would probably be labelled arrogant or worse) to accept it, I still dream of being there myself to live the "romantic" life. If by "romantic" you mean no running water, rampant disease & poverty, violence, death at an early age, no deodorant, toothbrushing or ANY decent hygiene or regular bathing & the loss of everything that makes are lives simpler, until I realize that I would have been one of the poor & would not have liked it for more than a week or MONTH at most. That's why I love to read about it. If you like J.R.R. Tolkien or Sean Connery, love history but not so much great acting, then you might like this movie.
