Not as sexist as it seems at first.
Directed by Jonathan Miller (A plus) and featuring John Cleese's only Shakepearean perfomance (B plus) . As an added bonus there was the gorgeous Vermeer styled interior set (B plus).
I watched this back to back with the Zeffirelli's lush Burton/ Taylor extravaganza (OTT or what). In both performances we see that the cunning Kate, while superficially being 'tamed' has quietly brought the roystering Pettrucio to heel. How many plays can a character be portrayed by such diverse individuals as Cleese and Burton? Answer a play written by Shakespeare (AA plus).
