Excellent kids-level intro to dinosaurs. Good but not great annimation.
As the above title says - This series is a great intro to dinosaurs, but some of the animation is kids-level compared with many brilliant movies of today. I wish the makers had explained something of the earlier (and still massive reptiles) and how & why so many variations evolved, and indeed why some (many ?) became carnivores when the world was green and relatively uninhabited. Many questions unanswered - so as I say.., its an introduction.. Note to parents of impressionable / younger children - some of the scenes are as gruesome as watching kills in African wildlife today. For a thinking person the 'how it was made' look into the work of the Paleontologist and their working alongside animators was as interesting, albeit not so entertaining. Absolutely would recommend the series to any parent wanting to both entertain and to broaden the outlook of their children. And for us adults entertaining / interesting but relatively shallow.

Schneider flat plate light switches
Very good quality light switches with stainless face plate with brass electrical screw-connectors, and a nice click feel to the rocker switch. The depth of the slimline switch (and therefore the required box - not supplied) is 16mm.
I'm fitting these into a boat, with not very thick bulkheads, and so I cut the hole for the switch itself - but then plastic into which the face plate clips, holds the face panel away from the bulkhead by 5mm. If fitting into a domestic or commercial-building's standard light-switch box then this ought not be a problem.
Note regarding the rocker switch surround colour (either black or white). Originally I bought six double-switches in white. I then couldn't find those same single-switches at a sensible price and so I bought ones with the black plastic around the rocker. These have rounded corners to the black surround, whereas the white ones have sharp square corners ! It's only a minor detail ..but its these details which make us buy one light-switch rather than another.
Fitting is easy, after using a flat blade screwdriver to carefully prise the stainless face plate off its thin plastic holder. The brass electric wire connectors are rather small in hole size if you need to double up soldered 1mm wires into them, such as when looping the live wire from one double-switch to the other. And it is rather thin walled, so you have to be careful not to over tighten the little brass screw (holding the wires in) for fear of stripping its tiny brass thread. Care is then needed to refit the face plate (which just pushes on) because the clips do not easily align.
In short quite a bit of care is needed (more so than with normal household switches) ..and not heavy handedness.
However, once fitted they do look very nice. The lightly brushed stainless steel is easy to wipe clean with just a damp sponge, and the click of the rocker has just the right feel. I would buy again.
Hope that is helpful.

Exceptional Digital camera because of optical zoom
2 of 2 found this helpful This is my 3rd Lumix DMC-FZ after being a Minolta camera of the year fan : Originally & the one just bought are FZ-10 and inbetween I use an FZ-20. What I liked was the fast speed between shots (you lose the moment with some digital cameras' downloading time) the ability for it to take shots when even I couldn't clearly make out the image (too dark) and the particularly excellent zoom (optical rather than digitally enhanced) with it's image stabiliser not needing a tripod even at 10x - the equivalent of a 400mm lens ! being a fan of classic aircraft i now have a collection of flying and static shots that would have been economically and time-wise impossible with a film camera. Likewise with staged outdoor concerts. With the film camera, even one as good as the Minolta I would hope for 2 perhaps 3 good shots per film. Now I can take 200 high-speed zoomed-in flying aircraft shots a day (I have spare batteries) and expect 1/4 of those to be as good as the best of my film photos.
The camera's not perfect, and the image is not as sharp as many of the later high pixel cameras, but in truth those extra pixels take a whole lot of downloading and storage space which is simply not required. If when using film you never used coarser than 32 asa, because you needed that sort of sharpness then perhaps you'll be glad of the extra pixels. Personally I find too sharp a resolution on anything but wildlife tends to loose something of the reality and atmosphere, and is certainly uncomplimentary to friends and family ! Ladies don't like to see every hair and wrinkle ! And a veteran spitfire on landing approach can look like it's over-restored or model-like if photographed at too high a resolution. More is often not better in photography...
A few other things I really like about this camera is its fit and feel in the hand. Small and lightweight cameras are great for carrying around in your pocket, but I find them awkward for man sized hands (!), too light to be steady when zooming in, and only actually useful for snap shots. The 2" LCD screen is a real boon when looking over crowds, and the flash is really very competent. In fact I use masking tape over it for closer work.
All in all these are cameras which really work for me. Other brands may be better in a few feature specifications - but as an all round keen-photographer package I think the Fz-20 @ 5mb hits the spot better than any other. And certainly anything close to these prices. Yes it is looking a little less than flash modern now, but what do you want to do pose and attract thieves, or to take photos in a host of different environments ?
Hope that helps. Near everyone has an opinion, but they are only that - an opinion. best regards, Pete
