Well constructed but unlike a soft-close cabinet door
Installation instructions were sparse and really specific to an adjacent hinge in very close approximation to the opening radius of this gate closer. As indicated in the instructions it was necessary for me to construct a custom bracket to position the opener laterally to align the two hinge axes. However as most garden/pool gates have their hinges centered on their support posts 1/2 in to 1 inch inside the attachment points for the closer there was no way to construct a custom bracket that would both position the closer laterally and inwardly. Therefore unless your gate has a piano hinge or is hinged like a door you will be unable to properly align the hinges with the unequal axes of rotation of resulting in a fulcrum effect near max opening leveraging the hinge closest to the closer and thereby limiting width of the gate opening . I was disappointed that the product design did not consider this obvious concern. Lastly although the gate does adjust to a final soft close the movement from max opening is similar to a screen door closer uneven and jerky. Smooth would have been expected. Still the product is the best available and reasonably priced. Recommend
