Shogun assassin
1 of 1 found this helpful What can I write about a film that I first saw whilst on holiday in the USA back in 1982? Ist, it is more than a chop them spectacular. The Samurai in the film loses his wife because the Shogun suspects his loyalty. He then becomes a single father, making a change from the ubiquitous single mother in my country!, and then proceeds to chop off the heads etc of all who come before him with the exception of a female ninja who has the knack of getting out of danger as fast as she gets into it, unlike her compatriots!
As a liker of Japanese culture, I have to think to myself, does this do the Japanese people any favours in the way how others view them? As this was made by a Japanese film company with western input, it would be wrong to judge the film by western standards. The film itself does not waste time and in comparison with other slasher type movies, it looks tame judging by what is available less than ten years later!
What the message for myself is that if you make an enemy of a Samurai, do not be surprised if he gets upset and end up regreting it! At the end of the day, this could apply in any circumstance like if you hit someone, do not be surprised if they hit back!, if only harder!
To finish, I bought this film because I had not seen it in 26 years and I wanted to see if it was still worth all the panic years ago!

Magnum-Road to paradise
This is the first time I have ever been asked to right a review of anything so I think that I am going to enjoy this! I have been a Magnum fan since 1988 when I bought Magnum 2 for my girlfriend and I was instantly hooked. The songs on the this CD epitomize the group at their best with a raw unrestrained energy that finds its expression through the words and music of its members. The poetry in the lyrics reaches out to me expressing a depth and quality that seems to have faded away in the 21st century, that being something what comes from the heart, soul and feels genuine, not from a manufactured boyband kind. The group appearance on stage is something like out of the Lord of the rings but this suits their music well when I saw them perform at the London Hammersmith odeon back in 1990.
What do I dislike about the CD? Only in that the song reborn was not on it but that is only a minor criticism as I think that this song was not written until after 1983, I think?
Why did I buy it? Mainly most of my Magnum songs are on Vinyl and I thought that it would be a good to some on CD, seeing as I do not have a record player anymore. Makes sense when you think about!
Magnum are no longer together but I think that they are the unsung heroes of metal in that they put a lot of effort into their work and that is what I like best about them.
