Driving Home - My introduction to Cheryl Wheeler
I bought this album on the strength of some YouTube clips I viewed. I then quickly bought the rest of Cheryl Wheeler's back catalogue on the strength of this album.
Driving Home is an immediately likeable and accessible collection of personal songs with universal themes. A perfect mix of satire and sentiment from an artist who is as comfortable being a biting humorist (Don't Forget the Guns) as she is being a deeply reflective balladeer (75 Septembers, Almost).
It was only upon hearing Cheryl's other offerings that I learnt that this exceptional album is by no means the exception, all of her work is consistently brilliant. I only regret that I didn't discover Cheryl Wheeler sooner, but unfortunately she isn't particularly well known here in the UK, though she clearly deserves to be.
