The Friends of the National Railway Museum is a charity, number 273829. It was formed in 1977 to support the Museum. We help fund the restoration of exhibits in the National Collection, the acquisition of new artefacts, and other projects that would otherwise not be possible. We support and promote research and educational projects relating to the history and development of railways. The Friends are based in our own office at the Railway Museum in York with a North East branch at Locomotion and a group in the South of England. How you can help By becoming a Friend you will be helping the National Railway Museum as they tell the vitally important story of a technology that changed the world. With the exciting ‘Vision 2025’ project underway to transform the museums at both York and Shildon, there has never been a better time to join us. Benefits • The satisfaction of being involved with the world’s leading railway museums. • A quarterly magazine, NRM Review, which carries information relating to the Museum and articles on a variety of railway topics (with a supplement, Half Fare, for younger members). • Programmes of talks in York, London and Shildon. • Opportunities to volinteer, run sales stands at model railway shows and other railway events. • Opportunities to travel, on steam specials all over the country (eg Flying Scotsman) with our on-board sales trolley. • Discounts in the Museum’s shops, restaurants and car park. • Occasional events exclusive for Friends. • Annual trips to overseas railway museums and railway-related attractions.
