best early model
From the era before mdlp and net md, this is in my opinion the best recorder in terms of build quality and looks. It's less bulky than the earlier models like the mz-r35 but feels better built than the mz-r55. It's as though Sony dropped the quality after this model. It still has a separate line out which is combined with the headphone jack in the mz-r90 onwards. Read the write up for this model on minidisc org.

good features but mediocre build quality
1 of 1 found this helpful It's as though Sony dropped the quality from the previous model for this model. The silver finish on the buttons wears off eventually and the top casing feels slightly flimsy. On the plus side, it is the last model with a separate line out.
