Great Show -- Low Resolution Copy
2 of 5 found this helpful It may well be that these discs represent the best transfers available without going to blurays, but the image quality is remarkably poor for DVDs -- especially in the first two seasons. (There is a minuscule improvement that frequently evaporates, in subsequent seasons.) Large pixels are ever present, as is a fuzzy digital 'gel' around moving objects. I'm always grateful when the director has chosen to use a closeup of an actor as this choice employs most of the screen to 'draw' the subject of the shot and thus, renders some detail.
These problems are consistently present on both of my reasonably high quality screening venues. (80" Sharp AQUOS with Opo Bluray player in home theater; 46" Magnavox with Sony Bluray in bedroom.) A third setup which is an older CRT TV fed by a portable DVD player that I use in the kitchen, simply shows a low resolution image consistent with VHS standards which is of course, well below DVD quality available on even that setup with other discs.
I'm likely to spring for the blurays when it comes time to go through this series again in the future -- you might want to do so now.
