The Scarlet Claw
Although Rathbone's portrayal is loosely based on the Holmes that Conan Doyle had in mind, he is nonetheless entertaining. The second story on the disc 'The House of Fear' is based on the short story 'the five orange pips'. I however purchased this DVD for the Scarlet Claw which I think along with Hound of the Baskervilles are the better of the Rathbone adaptations. The Scarlet Claw itself does not relate to the canon in any way but is gripping with a storyline that steadily unwinds throughout the film spoon feeding the viewer and leaving them wanting more and only Basil Rathbone could pull that off. For the bargain price I would certainly recommend this even to none Holmes fans.
