Building Your Gunsmithing Library: An Index Review of Gunsmithing Books, book #17, 4 stars:
I just received my copy of the book so I can not give a personal view at this time. I will share the information that guided me to this book. Midway USA's Building Your Gunsmithing Library: An Index Review of Gunsmithing Books #17, 4 stars: Below is their description from the Index book. "Provides clear, easy to understand instructions in gunstock woodcarving. The highlights are the pictures, illustrations, and step-by-step instructions that provide an easy to follow explanation of the basics of woodcarving. Of particular interest are the cutting exercises in chapters 7 and 8, where carving projects are broken down to their essential components to aid in the understanding of the material. This book primarily discusses woodcarving with edged hand tools rather than power tools." Chapter - topics : 1) Proper Working Conditions 2) Tools 3) Design Selection and Preparation 4) Pattern Forming and Design Application 5) Patterns for Troublesome Pistol Grip Configurations 6) Stock Preparation and Finishing 7) Cutting Exercises 8) Full-Scale Carving Exercises 9) Techniques for Low-Relief Carving 10) Gallery of Full-Scale Designs Glossary
The Book of Five Rings Musashi, Miyamoto
    25 Mar, 2022
The Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi
Smaller book (59 pages) then I was expecting. But when you thing about a Japanese Samurai Warrior writing a book way back in 1645 in traditional Japanese, it was probly pretty big back then. Regardless, The Book of Five Rings refers to the psychological and physical way of thinking that there are different elements of battle and daily life that are much the same. How you think and act should follow the "way". The "way of the warrior" basically applies to every thing we do and how we should think, so that one is ready for anything, should the need arise. This book touches on what Musashi considers are the five elements of battle and relates the theory of these elements to different physical elements in life. Good read, much like Sun Tu's The Art of War.
