HMS REPULSE ARMAMENT SET FOR TRUMPETER (15in & 4in BARRELS) #350036 1/350 MASTER

Wonderful aftermarket set for the 1/350 HMS Repulse by Trumpeter -
Mediterranean Maelstrom; HMS Jervis & the 14th Flotilla - Connell *hard cover*
22 Mar, 2017
Highly Recommended - they don't write Naval books like this anymore
This is a superbly well-written and informative book on HMS Jervis which served continuously from the outbreak of WWII to the cessation of hostilities in Europe. HMS Jervis was one of the very first old and original postcards that I bought in the early 1980's when starting a Royal Navy Postcard Collection - so has always been a favourite ship !
She was completed just before the outbreak of war as a Flotilla Leader ( which means she would command 7 other destroyers in battle ) ,and was Flotilla Leader successively, of 7th and 14th flotillas .
HMS Jervis was awarded no fewer than thirteen battle honours, a record shared by only two other ships of the fleet. Connell concentrates on her time as leader of the 14th Flotilla, mainly in the Mediterranean, using much first-person material and a wealth of well-chosen photographs (many from previously unpublished personal collections) .
Flyhawk 1/350 HMS Battlecruiser Repulse 1941 Detail Set for Trumpeter #FH350023
23 Aug, 2018
Wonderful Super-Detail set - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for HMS Repulse ( and accurate )
This is a superb , well engineered Super Detail Set .
The one thing I would stress are that Fly-Hawk wants you to fit too many Oerlikon 20mm AA gun tubs to the Repulse - whereas there were only 8 fitted to the ship in December 1941 .
I provide some photos to show you where they are correctly located .
The Plastic Gun Tubs Moulded by Trumpeter on the Aft Turret - and the Stern - were never there - remove them - you only have only have 2 round , flat platforms for the Oerlikons on the Rear Turret .
The newest edition to the PE sets for the 1/350 HMS Repulse is from Flyhawk out of China.
To say this is a typical detail set is a bit of an understatement.
It includes seventeen (17), yes seventeen frets of photo etch as well as a box of resin parts and brass gun barrels for the main guns and 20 mm mounts.
Not to worry though, each fret is not a large sheet, but a series of smaller sheets focusing on a specific section of the ship.
From a personal perspective, I like the idea of working on a specific fret at a specific stage of a build.
Flyhawk does a good job of identifying and separating each fret and incorporating the photo etch into the flow of the build, so there should not be much jumping around and page searching. Two sheets of instructions, front and back are included, but extensive research material will be needed to incorporate all the brass parts which are included in the set.
Resin Parts -
The resin parts included in the set are used to replace the paravanes (3), binoculars A set and B set (40), large searchlights (4) and small searchlights (20).
The parts in this set for Repulse are well cast .
Brass Gun Barrels - Includes 6 main guns and 12 x 20 mm barrels ( only 8 needed !!!! )
This is a massive set for the HMS Repulse. The instructions are easy to follow, but do not cover the assembly and placement of some of the parts like the vertical rail supports and even the deck edge railing.
Guess work and plenty of cross checking to ensure correct placement of rails and supports will slow the build. Identifying all the parts by name is troublesome because there are no written directions, only the international symbols seen in most, if not all mass marketed kits.
I strongly suggest plenty of research material, a search engine and patience.
This super detail set has the potential to turn the Trumpeter HMS Repulse into a real show stopper, but I estimate six months minimum to complete the project ( your results may vary ) !
