Plug in and Go !

I had a pair of pass-throughs previously but wanted to extend my network; concerned that new units might not be compatible with existing, I chose to buy four (two passthrough and two plain) new.
There's a 'synchro' button to press when first installing, but they seem to work without so I get the impression that the buttons are to enable some sort of security (?).
