Only a day but happy with the refurb 4a!
Only been a full day, but so far impressed with the 4a refurb unit! Battery life seems decent, just switched the SIM card from my Pixel XL. Have to qualify things and say that most of my use has been in-home on Wi-Fi, but still a noticeable improvement compare to the old XL. First thing I noticed was the speed improvement. Everything from email to texting. Also have used for a few actually phone calls, and there seems to no lag as is sometimes experienced on calls. Even with Wi-Fi. Although the 4a is smaller (and lighter) than the XL, the display is easy to adapt to. I did adjust the font size, and that helps a lot. My initial impression was that I didn't like the smaller form factor 4a. Now I'm used to it! The good news is that I can continue to use the XL in-home over Wi-Fi as a mini-tablet device without the SIM installed. So I'll continue to use the XL.

ELAC DS-S101-G Discovery Music Server Good Shape

Elac music server well worth it as a used buy
Bottom-line: for a unit that would've cost $1100 USD brand new and even now can go for $500-600 after being on the market for a few years, getting this unit second hand for much less than that and in very good, practically new cosmetic condition, I feel like I got a very solid buy. Add to that, today's solid state music sources don't wear down the way older, mechanical drive devices--there's really nothing that can go wrong with it! So it's just a matter of waiting out the technology. Initial set-up and network connection took a little doing. Through a combination of visiting the Elac web site and some minor Googling, I was able to get things set up on my Windows 10 laptop as the "Core" for the Roon system that the Discovery runs off of. Once that's done, all the music you might've had stored on the network comes to life. I started using Qobuz as my streaming source and, sorry to say, I cancelled my $5 per month subscription to Pandora which I had for quite a few years. A Qobuz subscription costs more than that, but to me it's worth it to have pretty much unfettered access to saved music that I can enjoy over and over again without having to outright buy it, though that's certainly an option. All in all, I like the Elac Discovery/Roon/Qobuz combo quite a bit. It's made me want to discover music I hadn't listened to in a long time because of the great variety available on Qobuz and the ease with which Roon allows it to be available through the Discovery which is connected to a NAD DAC unit to my main listening system. Roon also enables connection to any other networked speakers like Sonos or soundbars. Because of the high-def resolution of Qobuz, I feel like even the CD-quality recordings sound better than actual CDs playing through the same DAC. The higher res music (96khz and 192khz) sounds REALLY good! Overall, a great buy as a used unit. If not for a slightly involved set-up process I would've rated 5 stars.
HP 12.3 Chromebook x2 2-in-1 Tablet w/Keyboard with Pen

Second-hand purchase makes a great value in a 2-in-1 Chromebook!
The build quality is very good, which is expected of an HP product. I like the 2-in-1 Chromebook-to-tablet functionality. One of the main reasons I got this unit was to use it as a tablet. As my eyes are getting older, the size of the viewing area and quality of resolution are very good, especially for e-book reading. Love how the tablet portion easily detaches and reattaches to the keyboard. I did find that the note-taking app Squid worked better with the stylus than the native note-taking app. Overall, the effect of being able to take handwritten note on an electronic device offers potential to move away from hard copy paper and pen. Sound quality of the B&O speakers is very good. As an audio hobbyist, I've come to appreciate this feature more than expected, especially for watching video while using our in-home elliptical machine. Battery life is much better compared to a standard laptop. This of course will vary with what your doing, but minimum of a full day vs. only hours on a laptop. When we're able to travel again, I can see using the X-2 exclusively vs. bringing my full-sized 17" laptop for personal use. The only reason I would bring a regular laptop would be a for work with a work-issued device and would probably only bring one device or the other. I did a fair amount of research before buying the X-2 and find it meets the needs I was after.
