This laserdisc player is as good as the technology allows.
First of all, props to the seller. The player was indeed in perfect condition. Nary a scratch and works smoothly. I have another Pioneer model which I have connected in another room using an S-video connection to an older receiver. I wanted a laserdisc player that had a component connection. Few do, but this Pioneer does. What I didn't know is that the connection is only for DVD playback. The quality of that connection is meh. I have other ways of playing DVDs using HDMI which produces a superior picture. The only option for laserdisc playback is using an old fashion composite connection. The yellow, red, white interconnects of the 1990s. The sound is fine that way, pure analog in 2-channel. The video leaves much to be desired. However, modern smart TV's and receivers do a decent job of up-converting the signal. I hooked my up directly to the TV and the picture is tolerable, perhaps ever better than the S-video connection. I've got a large collection of laserdiscs which is why I bought this player. In summary, the laserdisc picture is about as good as this format allows.

Seagate FreeAgent 250 GB Hard Drive
I would rate this product slightly better than average primarily because it is compact and looks pretty cool with some nice yellow lighting. This is my 3rd external hard drive and they've pretty much all worked the same way. This Seagate unit installs some software that urges you to use their back-up system with regard to scheduling. It comes at a price however in term of cost. Included is the ability to backup your system off line. I wasn't interested and pulled the plug on the trial subscription. I did have a hard time working around it as I wanted to use the "free" process that came with the laptop. A good value in any case.

The Road Warrior (Blu-ray) AKA Mad Max 2
I remember seeing this movie for the first time at a drive-in theater in northern Indiana. I hadn’t heard of it and certainly not the original Mad Max which I don’t remember ever hitting theaters in my area. What a surprise it was. I was expecting the usual dumb “B” movie flick but got much, much more. The filmmakers improve on the original, primarily with more money and even better stunts. It doesn’t have much of a script or story but who cares? The film follows Max Rockatansky (an unknown Mel Gibson) as he seeks out to revenge the death of his wife and son in “MM 1”. No smiles, no jokes, no horsing around. He joins forces with a group of civilians who have built a fort of sorts around a gasoline refinery. Gas is king in this version of an apocalyptic world. The bad guys that killed his family are of course, trying to get the gas. “Road Warrior” is filled with style but it is the great vehicle action that makes it one of the best films of its genre…ever. The movie is a blast.
