Book for Foodies
Definitely a book for foodies. Lots of history, charts, etc. I'm halfway thru and love it. It's NOT a cookbook so don't buy it expecting any how to on cooking. I caught the author on a SC public radio station out of Columbia on my way to Charlotte from Charleston and that discussion prompted me to buy the book for myself and my chef girlfriend who also loves it. One of the takeaways is the importance of the soil. I brought a lot of new techniques for green fields for deer and soil restoration learned elsewhere to Coosa County, AL, when I lived there with the ex such as planting buckwheat and rotating with clovers. GA pecan growers have been planting buckwheat in pecan orchards for about 15 years now because the taproots will grow into the soil as much as four feet which is a big deal in clay. Deer and bees both love buckwheat and it makes good flour and a smokey, nutty, chocolately honey. Combine that with sourwood and you get a great honey!! I digress but the book has confirmed my interest in planting heirlooms vegetables and fruits. I highly recommend this book if you have the slightest amount of interest in food history and farming/gardening. It'll get you thinking.

For foodies only.....
Great book with all kinds of interesting stuff. Covers a bunch of stuff without getting overly legal. If you are in the restaurant business, cater or just cook you ought to have this book.
