A taste of life inside Delta Force
This is the book that inspired the TV series The Unit. I found it an enjoyable read, especially since it isn't very long (around 250 pages). It provides an insight into the selection and training of the first group of Delta Force soldiers, but not anything about any of their actual missions - I guess you watch The Unit, to see how that might work out. There are details that I recognise in The Unit and another show called Black Ops, unfortunately although the what the book covers is excellent, I was hoping for more insight into real-World missions.

Good, could have been great...
I've come to this film after having seen the TV series, then reading the original book and finally watching the film. As entertainment, it's fine, but having read the book, I think this might have been better suited to being more of a documentary. There are definite nods to details from the book, but the Hollywood wand has removed many of the unpleasant aspects of the story, so several major themes are left out of the film.
The extras on the DVD restore some depth and background back into the film, and one of the deleted scenes, which was a huge part of the book, really should have made the main movie.
The casting was very good, with a few of the cast looking spookily like their real-life counterparts - some (at least two) of the cast are also in the TV series. If I sound down on the film, that wasn't my intention - it's a good film, it's just not really what I was expecting. The book and the TV series really get across how importantly high-school football is regarded in Texas and the hysteria around it, but neither tell their story in 2 hours.
