Excellent value
1 of 1 found this helpful The excellent value for money is easily enough to overlook a few lapses in quality here. I ended up buying a hoist instead of renting, as it worked out cheaper.
You get what you pay for, but that's not always a bad thing. I can't really complain about the few issues I had during putting it together, as I feel that if you're ordering an engine hoist, you're more than capable of resizing a hole slightly to make a bolt actually fit, and the lack of clear instructions as to which bolts go where won't phase you.
Don't get me wrong, the paint is far from perfect, the stickers are peeling, and there are numerous areas where it could be improved, but it's going to be abused for a month's worth of weekends for an engine rebuild, then left in the corner of the garage until I need it again.
It is basic. The jack handle is a piece of rather crudly cut pipe, the bolts and accompanying nuts are made of the finest grade of Chinesium metal, and the is enough play in the boom arm mounting point that it is borderline dangerous. But these are all issues I can deal with, and at this price, can practically ignore.
The jack handle can be wrapped in heatshrink to give it grip. The bolts could be replaced, although I think a bit of thread locker will more the be enough. The play in the boom mounts will be fixed by filling the excess space either side on the bolts with washers. It could be repainted if I could be bothered. A few of the welds could do with being redone slightly, as the tack welds on the boom brace worry me.
But as I say, these are all very minor things. You would struggle to buy the metal stock, measure, cut, drill, weld, and paint one of these yourself, whilst still paying yourself for your time, for less than the cost of buying one.

Good value
Good value gasket set. The cam cover gasket didn't (MX5) fit as the holes are too small, however this wasn't an issue as my old one was still usable. Don't know what the longevity will be of the head gasket, but for the price of the set it's to be expected. Valve stem seals and all other gaskets fitted well and were good quality.
