A GREAT ADDITION TO ANY DETECTIVE MOVIE COLLECTION
1 of 1 found this helpful I have always been a huge fan of Charlie Chan movies. Sadly, I had not heard of Mr. Wong movies. Having seen them, I only wish I had seen them earlier.
I have really enjoyed Mr. Wong and Boris Karloff does a remarkable job. I was not used to seeing him in anything other than horror movies. I recommend watching Mr. Wong and adding this,to your detective movie collection.

A Journey of Self Discovery
Julia Ward Howe's novel The Hermaphrodite was truly a work a head of its time. I love the eloquence and beauty of writing in the early nineteenth century. Nothing today can compare to it. The book is about an intersex individual who is,presenting as a male.
The symbolism was not lost when he was in the hermitage where is states that the works of Catholic and Protestant theologians sat side by side one another, "Anathema - Maranatha." Anathema is a Greek word meaning one who is accursed because of their beliefs and Maranatha is an Aramaic word meaning Come, Lord.
The drama is also noteworthy. After Ronald got into a bar fight over Lawrence (and his relationship) Ronald tries to force himself upon Lawrence and Lawrence in drugs his wine and leaves he goes wondering. A man sees him and asks who he is. "Lo! I am one who is accursed, the devil is behind me." (Lawrence is a bit of a drama queen). I love it and can't help but love him too.
I wish among the theological works were the words of the Shaker foundress Mother Ann Lee because the Shakers were the first to use inclusive language referring to God as our Father and Mother. Fortunately he discovers his unique and 'holy' union of male and female. The ancients treated intersex individuals as holy because they bridged the divide between the sexes.
I still am debating as to whether Lawrence was not just intersex but also asexual. He rejected both Emma's overatures. Then, at Emma's gravesite he met Ronald. He seemed to have an attraction more toward Ronald. I am not sure why Lawrencs was so reluctant. Emma, a woman of 1840s, would not have known man, therefore she would have had anything with which to compare Lawrence's genitalia.
Ronald, grew to love him and I seriously doubt that he would have given Lawrence's ambiguous genitalia a second thought. He wanted to top Lawrence (to make him his 'woman".) The two of them might have been very happy together. Who can say.
He is convinced to dress in drag by his friend Berto and spend some time among his sisters and their friends. Ever the drama queen, as a woman, he throws himself upon the bed and pines for Ronald. But more importantly, he comes to terms with his feminine side and begins to appreciate himself more.
His tumultuous relationship with his father is worth mentioning. His youth reminded me of Dicken's A Christmas Carol particularly the young Master Ebenezer's relationship with his father. And after his brother Philip's fatal equestrian accident his interaction with his father put me in mind of Olivia deHaveland in The Heiress. I am glad that in the end he reconciled with his father, for Lawrence's own sake.
I really enjoyed this book and felt transported back to the time and places and felt that I was right there with Lawrence through his journeys as he discovered himself.

No more embarrassing wet spots
My grandfather once said to me: "No matter how many times you shake it, you put it back and still a bit drips out." I now understand what he meant. These underwear are meant for slight leakage. These are excellent. They work well. No more embarrassing wet spots. These underwear solve that issue and the best thing is that they are washable, not bulky and very comfortable. I have no problem recommendeding this product.
