Good alternative
The LEDS are about 1cm square, so this is not a tiny thing. The double sided tape is quality 3M tape, and that is all I have used to adhere them to the front of the ute. The wire is a double insulated two pair wire, with not a lot of wire :) Each strip pulls about 480mA @ 13V8 on my bench supply.

Cheap, work, but are slightly 'coarse'.
These are possibly not the ultimate choice in scribers - they are a bit 'chunky'. The point is sharp, but the carbide insert is a couple of mm in diameter. So not ideal for precision scribing.
My only serious criticism, however, is that the pencil type formfactor encourages you to put it into a shirt pocket.... Not a good idea! It is sharp! It'd be much better if it was retractable, but then they'd cost more than $AU3.25 each!

Cheap but decent.
Cheap, but seem quite decent. My application is low speed but vibration intolerant. They work just fine. Not much to say - cheap and effective.
