Tedious
This book is a pretty rough go. The good part is the author certainly has a comprehensive knowledge of his subject. I've never seen anything remotely like the book. The bad part is that he drowns you with endless statistics and tables on years, tonnage averages, costs, average costs, you name it, making you wish he'd restrain himself a bit.
I was primarily interested in the engineering and technology aspects and it's "in there," but you'll go through much paper and patience to find it.
A good reference perhaps but an easy book to put down.

Challenging
A comprehensive account of the background, personalities and techniques involved in the construction of the Empire State Building as well as certain others in New York. This book is not for the casual reader. An interest in architecture is a must as the reader will need to learn some new vocabulary. A review of the street layout of New York City would be helpful. A good addition to a technical library.
