Great Product - with an itch
1 of 1 found this helpful Performs as all TP-Link products - very, very well. TP-Link have centred on the fact that simple: works.
Unlike previous products (and no doubt, corrected in newer ones) TPL decided to build power-saving into these plugs.
I have only tested these on Non-MS platforms. Where "homeplugs" just work these have a flaw, they can work for 5mins or 5hours (it is very sporadic) but when they sleep they cannot be woken. Multiple online solutions include un-plugging and re-plugging and this works - for a time, others require significant technical knowledge.
Unlike other companies we will not mention here (but you know who they are) would take this as a gift from the gods, obsoleting that particular product, forcing you to purchase their later/latest offering, TPL did not. TPL releases a utility that turns off power-saving in the AV500, rendering the problem harmless. But only for MS platforms.
As a Linux user a more prosaic solution had to be found, there are many out there. I find this the easiest to use: Open the Terminal and Ping your router. Elegant in it's simplicity, but brilliant and conceived by a Linux user much cleverer than myself.
This means to an end can be adapted by technical users into to Start-Up Script and Activated to run as your machine starts. My preferred method: create a Launcher for the desktop with a simple ping command to my router and tick "Run in Terminal". This I double click when I reach my Desktop at start-up.
TP-Link, I think, make the best networking products for Price, Ease of Set-up & Reliability - tested over 15 years, but the AV500 has an itch!
