Terrific Stanwyck performance from Stanywick as a bed ridden woman who hears a murder plot -- hers!

Arguably Bette Davis' best performance.
A steamy moody melodrama set in Malaysia. Adapted from a Somerst Maughn story/play, director William Wyler reins Bette Davis in to produce an intense inner performance of apparently outward calm hiding boiling emotions. Adding the somewhat slightly hysterical but atmospheric music score from Max Weiner "The Letter" delivers solid entertainment with Davis ably supported by a strong backup cast.
