clean, clear and honest=Transparent
11 of 12 found this helpful These are open back phones, however there is very little leakage from outside influences and this allows the resulting sound to be very open and natural. The large motors contribute to a solid bass that never gets muddy and mids that never get harsh although they (mids) might be down a db around 400hz, which isn't a bad thing. The "muffs" cover the ears completely and comfortably and seem to seal well. Defining "pure" sound has always been a holy grail with audio enthusiasts; however, I personally think the term transparent works equally as well and describes the experience with these phones. Sound as close to what the engineers heard in the studio is what we all strive for and these sound as good (and better in some cases) that I've heard in the studio. I'm a keyboardist/composer and pipe organ tuner with very picky ears; The HD 600's satisfy completely.
