A document of old shool pool skating
Whilst the actual skateboarding footage is not the most exhilirating you'll ever see this is a worthy cultural document of a very Californian tradition of pool skating. Back in the Dogtown days of the late 70s pros like Tony Alva (featured here) used to sneak into backyards and skate empty swimming pools. The characters in chlorine (Steve Alba, Lance Mountain etc) are now middle aged men and still breaking the law for a thrill. If you're a skateboard purist you'll appreciate every aspect of the film except that at only sixty minutes you'll wish it was longer. If you don't like skateboarders you'll probably find their guerilla tactics and hardcore attitude a bit offensive.

not the most successful Pulp record but arguably their best
This is quintessential Pulp and showcases the singular presence of Jarvis Cocker as he emerged into the landscape of Britpop. His obsession with squalid sexual scenarios comes across quite inoffensively and is offset by the sublime way he sings about the prosaic. Whilst critically and commercially rated lower than Different Class, this is in many ways a more satisfying record. With it's distinctive cheesy synthesizers and simple guitars it might have failed completely - but when matched with Cocker's worldview it all works very well. Clever stuff, indeed.
