Calming cap a helpful tool for a dog with age related dementia.
As a professional canine educator I have used the calming cap in the past for reactive dogs. Now my own canine companion is struggling with dementia. He becomes very anxious and perseverates on other dogs in our family and barks continuously at them. The calming cap serves as a humane way to distract him and interrupt the difficult behavior. It definitely helps calm him.
Anyone who is interested in using a calming cap should spend time conditioning their dog to the process of putting it on and wear it consistently. I suggest building time up in short segments then increase time as the dog demonstrates calmer behavior.
