The Guv'nor
Since Ken Colyer's death in 1988 this is the one thing that I have yearned for. There is a great deal of recorded material from all stages of Ken's illustrious career as one of Britain's most influential jazzmen, but next to no filmed material, and none until this of him leading one of his own bands. This package includes a DVD of a special concert at London's 100 Club with Ken leading a band comprising Ian Turner,(clt.),Les Handscombe (tmb.), Ray Foxley (p.),Brian Mitchell (bj.),Julian Davies (b.),Pete Lay(dms.).Seven numbers are include on the DVD and a further nine are in sound only on an a bonus CD.All are beautifully filmed and recorded. The rest of the DVD has film of sessions at London's Pizza Express. There are four skiffle numbers with Ken on guitar and vocal leading Brian Mitchell (bj),Johnny Parker (p.),Brian Brocklehurst (b.) and Bill Colyer (washboard). To round off the DVD there are filmed interviews with Ken,Acker Bilk,Ian Wheeler,Ian Christie,Wally Fawkes,Humphrey Lyttleton,Monty Sunshine, and Chris Barber. In case all this is not enough there are six numbers by Ken Colyer and Friends filmed and recorded at The Pizza Express, the friends being Ian Christie (clt.), Wally Fawkes (Sop.),Les Hanscombe(tmb.),Johnny Parker (p.),Brian Brocklehurst (b.),and Stan Grieg (dms). The whole thing is very well packaged and includes a booklet with plenty of photos from the sessions and biographical notes. One complaint I have is that I have not found a way of removing an intrusive German voice over from the interviews.Non German speakers can just about work out what is going on,but only just! Still this is a small price to pay and since the whole thing is the work of Fritz Peters and his German backers we must be very grateful to that Nation for their efforts, for there is nothing else available that I am aware of.The sessions were filmed in 1986 and 1987 and only just in time, bearing in mind that Ken was to leave us just short of his 60th.birthday in 1988.I suppose that I should go on to tell you the titles of the tunes on the DVD and CD,but if you are a Colyer fan you really should buy this and find out for yourself. You won't regret it! Heartilly recommended.
Liberon Special Pale French Polish Brings Out Natural Grain of Wood - ALL Sizes

polishing light wood.
I am glad to have found this product. In the past I have always used French Polish by Liberon on dark wood and found it excellent, but feared that it would make my latest project which has a lot of fine marquetry too dark. This one is virtually colourless and has done a very good job.I have applied it with a tradtional cloth rubber in the usual way,and it has worked well.
