Buy this kit: it's complete, and perfect for a rank beginner (like me). You will be successful with it.
This kit arrived on time. It contains everything it references, in labeled, right-sized ziploc bags. The plastic case for everything helps me keep it all organized. I put a large paperclip on all the bags of hooks and beads so I can find them quicker though. I've made two of each pattern and find the second comes out much better than the first. I've had to buy more hooks, but the other supplies are plentiful still. The case is big enough to hold what came in it as wells as the tools I bought (see below). Each fly has two pages of instructions, with images. Each pattern is coded green (easy), yellow (moderate), or red (something new). I find that I have to "read between the lines" at times, using the images to understand the words. It's an effective "enrichment" device the author uses and I've been able to make the first 13 patterns without trouble. My flies look like the images in the guide book. I'm 65% of the way through the guide book and I like tying flies more with each pattern. I bought a simple vise (Anglerhaus Tools Crown Blacky) and the Dr. Slick tool kit. Both are great. I haven't fished my flies yet: I went to the river w/o my fly box. I'm new to it all though. I've been rounding up pieces from an ill fated attempt to learn fly fishing in 2007. I'm doing better this time. I had plans to fish yesterday but the dam operator set its flow on 11: in February the flow rate was 135 cfs. Yesterday it was 1,620 cfs. This fly kit is terrific. I think it should include some dubbing wax though. That or I'm doing something wrong when dubbing with rabbit fur. I don't like dubbing with rabbit fur. You can easily end up with 40 flies on your first pass through and the purchase price, divided by 40, is "a small number" as my former math students would say. Then, make more!

Keep the reel functioning
A tiny, near weightless bit of plastic, but essential to the reel. These are the real McCoy.
