A master at work
Richly beautiful & touching film from the hands of a master.

The past brought to life in an astonishingly vivid fashion.
Memoirs of Nazi atrocities come thick and fast but this story is a one-off.
I have never read such an intense description of the events which destroyed a whole layer of civilized European society.Overnight Austria's cultured elite
lost everything . This book serves as a reminder that mankind can descend into unreason & appalling cruelty at a moment's notice.
The survival of the netsuke echoes the survival of the human spirit. The tiny objects, nothing but toys really, take on the nobility and significance of major works-of-art.You long for them to come through intact and amazingly they do.

Good record of a famous production.
Good record if a bit too close focus. Theatre productions sometimes not suited to filmic techniques.
The long shots give a better idea of what the production was like to see in the theatre,
