It's a rat trap.....and you been caught!
I put a lump of foam smeared with peanut butter on the hooks, voila, two rats in two days. You may have to bend the little catches that hold the doors open, but for the price they are a bargain and work very well. I've also caught 2 squirrels and 3 blackbirds (released without harm).

Great tester
I’ve had one of these for 20 years, used it regularly for testing vehicle electrics. It finally gave up recently, and I was gutted, fortunately they still make them so I got myself a new one. Hopefully it’ll last as long as my old one.
