Good Film from the 1950's
I saw an interview with Michael Anderson (the director) and he told some of the back story and although I had see the film over 50 years ago decided to take another look. Although a little dated it shows good solid British Cinema and I really enjoyed it. Although the name of the main characters dog which I will not repeat is not pc-it was made in a different time. One if the interesting facts that Michael Anderson said- the actors who portrayed the real life heroes looked very much like them and to go to such detail is commendable. On the whole a good film to watch on a rainy afternoon not only on Sunday as this is a good one.

Period Film That Stands Up To The Test Of Time
1 of 1 found this helpful There are two films called Quartet and both coincidentally feature the wonderful Dame Maggie Smith and that is where the similarity ends. This is a full on drama brought to the screen by Merchant and Ivory and their wonderful screenwriter Ruth Prawer Jhabvala and it is excellent. The whole production is a lesson in brilliant in filmmaking. The cast led by Isabel Adjani, Alan Bates and the aforementioned Dame Maggie show produce magical results. I have been wanting to see this for ages and whilst looking for something on E Bay I searched for this and found it and promptly bought it. Restored by the BFI it is a classic in its own right. It is not so much as entertaining but quite dark but I did marvel at it. Definitely one for my collection and as I have over 2500 films, box sets I am delighted it has a home with me.
