The Essentials of Business Etiquette: How to Greet, Eat, and Tweet Your Way...
    15 Jul, 2023
    Fine condition with great knowledge
Initially, I wasn't sure how much knowledge I would find in this book as I already have started my career journey. That being said, this book does a great job of expanding on concepts you've been taught from an early age and introducing you to ideas you may have never considered. With just over 100 tips inside the book, there will definitely be concepts brought up that you haven't experienced. I found the sections on eating to be very interesting as I never delved into the intricacies of dining with clients or with employers. This book does a nice job of explaining the little details; such as: what the different spoons at a restaurant mean, and the proper place for where to put your silverware when eating/resting during meals. I even enjoyed learning about how to test for quality wine if I am the host of a meal. I have never drank wine but having the knowledge is better than not. The book has many repeated philosophies in it which are crucial to the advancement of anyone's career. Lessons on how to take initiative and be confident are sprinkled as the book dives into both in-person meetings and virtual settings. It is apparent the author believes that many opportunities are priceless and saying "no" today could very well be the difference in a "yes" you will need in the future. I really enjoyed the book's lessons on email etiquette. In a world that is largely connected through the internet, knowing when it is appropriate to end an email thread or to message back can be difficult and I feel the author does a great job of teaching the little lessons that can be learned in the social media era. I also appreciated the personal anecdotes and the small lessons she has learned on her journey because it shows that we all have something to learn from one another. This being said, sometimes the book would be redundant in its messages, and some rules may not apply to everyone. There were probably 5 or so lessons dedicated to not abusing alcohol and several dedicated to not wearing revealing clothing. These are good lessons but it would feel repeated on occasions. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone starting out on their career journey who wants an early boost of confidence and knowledge. This book is also great for anyone who would like a refresher on concepts they may have forgotten or may want to look at deeper.
