Time for my wife to join Hells Grannies
10 of 10 found this helpful For the past few months my wife and I have been trawling through all the available information to find out about powered wheelchairs. My wife has chronic illnesses with a spinal condition that means even the shortest walk can be cruelly cut short if her spine compresses. She immediately needs to sit down and take time to recover. She has been desperate to get out and about with me and out three dogs, but because of her spinal problems has been increasingly stranded at home.
I spotted this type of powered wheelchair on a USA website and it seemed ideal for our needs. It would enable my wife to come out with me and the dogs for a walk, she could leave her chair and throw the ball for the dogs and then when her back began to spasm or otherwise play up, get back into the wheelchair and literally take the weight off her feet rather than having to stagger home in pain.
We spent a long time researching where these chairs were made (China unsurprisingly) but had great difficulty finding a supplier offering the chair at a reasonable price. Actually it took us quite a while to find any supplier in the UK able to supply this type of chair. We were also bemoaning the fact that the one supplier we did identify was well over 120 miles away and selling the chair for around £2300.
I think Livewell have got to be commended for not whacking an obscene amount on the actual import price unlike other suppliers. Selling at the price they do meant we decided to take a punt on it and go ahead and order the chair and if it was unsuitable I'd drive it back myself.
I ordered well after the 2 pm deadline for next day delivery, but was pleasantly surprised when it arrived within 24 hours. That was pretty impressive.
The chair was very well packed and arrived in pristine condition. I'm not sure whether the supplier had opened the packaging prior to dispatch - to be fair, there was probably no need for them to do so. I was pleasantly surprised to find both batteries were 90% charged on arrival. That alone bodes well for the longevity of the batteries if they arrived at that level of charge after being shipped from China in a shipping container across the South China Sea and onwards to the UK.
Be warned though - this chair is no lightweight. When I saw videos of people putting the folded chair into cars, it seemed obviously that they were doing so almost almost in the manner of properly trained weight lifters. The weight itself is not inconsequential, but the main difficulty is that when folded they are awkward to pick up easily. That said the weight gives a reassuring feeling about how robust the chair will be in action.
My wife is very pleased with it. So far today (delivery day) she has just been testing out the chair at low speeds indoors. The controls are easy to get the hang of and the chair manoeuvres very well.
Interestingly the instruction booklet stresses the chair is mainly intended for indoor use, but I am reasonably confident the chair will perform well outside on hard ground and hopefully on dry grassed areas too. We don't expect it be an all terrain 4x4, but we'll be a bit miffed if it doesn't hold up well through a good old British winter.
But all in all we think we've got a good piece of kit here.

Inexpensive and effecttive
2 of 2 found this helpful I ordered two of these arches. They arrived promptly and well wrapped. The arches were relatively easy to assemble although even when fully tightened there was quite a bit of give in some of the joints. The aim is to trail a very vigorous grape vine over the arches so am hoping these will do the job well. All parts and screws present and correct.

Solid and (hopefully) reliable.
Really like this machine. Bought it to replace the liquidiser that came with our old Kenwood food processor set. The previous one lasted 20 years and I was bit miffed I couldn't get the spares to repair it. We looked at arious liquidisers, but took a shine to this one as it matches the Kmix mixer we already have.
Pros:
Big solid glass jug (as opposed to plastic in previous m/c)
Easily cleaned as blade unit detaches from base of jug so little wasted.
Powerful action motor and blade.
Cons:
Lid quite difficult to flip off. Especially for my arthritic wife. But then again, little chance of the lid coming off accidentally whilst processing the contents.
All round very pleased with it.
