Fishman TriplePlay Connect Guitar MIDI Controller
    29 Sep, 2020
Not really as good as the reviewers want you to think.
I contacted Fishman after I bought this because I couldn't figure out how to connect this to an iPad, and get sound out of the iPad to my mixer plus have the iPad plugged in to a charger for secure power while playing live. It seams that this is intended only to be used as a toy to play your guitar through blue tooth headphones or similar. I looked at all the reviews online and nobody addresses these issues or questions. So I got the software downloaded onto my Mac, but that version only seems to come with Synthmaster sounds, none of which work well with a guitar. I also find the lag when trying to play this makes it unusable. I have had great luck with Fishman gear in the past, so am naturally disappointed after all the hype from online reviewers, that this unit has not been thought through or properly supported for computer based sound generation.

Taylor 414ce-N Grand Auditorium Nylon Acoustic/Electric Guitar Natural LEFT
    02 Feb, 2016
A nice guitar, but not inspiring.
I am a lefty, so trying before I buy is not often an option. Especially if I want something in particular. I have bought (and sold) many guitars over the years, primarily electrics always with mixed levels of satisfaction when I receive a new instrument. The Taylor 414ce-N was something I decided to buy after recently getting back into nylon strung guitars to play more for my own enjoyment than anything else. I bought a Manuel Rodriguez Senior hand made Spanish classical guitar last year unseen, and in spite of its price, loved it completely. It is too rare and collectible to be beaten around as a daily player, and I also wanted something that could be connected through a looper into an amp to develop a different direction for myself. The Taylor is a very well made guitar, and plays very nicely. The quality of finish is in line with the price I paid, although I confess that I lusted after the 8 & 9 series guitars, I felt that buying another high end guitar would defeat the object here. Tonally this guitar does not compare with the Rodriguez, but wipes the floor with most other cheaper guitars I have sampled. The interesting thing about this guitar is that it is built to play like a steel string or electric. It has string spacings and a radiused fret board and bridge very similar to my old Echo. I expected to like this feature, but it somehow feels wrong to play nylon strings this way. I find myself missing strings on some strumming actions that are more natural to a classical with flat fret boards. I have plugged it in to a couple of amps, although not one voiced for acoustic instruments, but even through headphones it does not sound like a nylon strung guitar. It does not sound like a steel strung either, so a little research will have to be done to find out if I can get the amplified tone I want with this guitar. Looking at other people who use the pre amp alongside a microphone to get proper tone, I suspect it may be more complicated than I wanted. I didn't want to modify my classical guitar by fitting a pre amp, but in retrospect it may have been a better option to get what I want. I am not disappointed with the guitar, but if i had had the opportunity to play it before I bought it, I think I would have waited and tried other options.
