Gelid Solutions 1 to 4 PWM Fan Splitter Cable, Connect 4 PWM Fans to 1 Socket
14 Nov, 2016
Does what it says on the tin!
I purchased the Gelid Solutions 1 to 4 PVM Splitter Cable, to assist me in fitting a Gigabyte GA-81DX Motherboard, in a Zalman Z11 Plus ATX Mid Tower Case. The latter has a plethora of fans, in addition to the three (CPU, AGP & I-845 Brookdale Chip) on the Motherboard (which does not support PWM, but does monitor fan speeds), which need to be connected to the +12V power rail. These have a variety of connectors, including in-line standard 4 pole disk drive ones, and smaller 3 pole (for fan speed monitoring) ones, for which the fan splitter is suitable. A satisfactory solution and result!

Samsung J3 2017 Battery Replacement Job
The old battery had swollen and the screen was bowed. Removing the latter is necessary to replace the former. The tools supplied with the battery were useful, but the screen still got damaged; fortunately I had ordered a replacement screen, which turned out to be required. Having removed this, many small screws were ditto and the battery could then be replaced. Connected everything up, connected the charger and a few hours later the new battery was fully charged. Put some dabs of adhesive on the back of the screen, put it back in place, and everything working & good as new!

Kingston - Memory - 1 GB - DIMM 168-PIN - SDRAM

Instant Memory Upgrade!
I have a Gigabyte GA-81DX Motherboard (1.6GHz Intel P4 CPU) with 768MB (3 x 256MB) of SDRAM; this was passed on to me, by a friend, some years ago, when he upgraded his system. He had been running Windows 98, Second Edition, on it (he passed on the hard drive as well). I upgraded the operating system, to Windows xp, Service Pack 3, retaining the original hard drive, and operating system, as a backup, in case it did not work! I also added new AGP graphics, Network etc. cards, Hard, CD-ROM DVD-RW etc. drives and other peripherals. The Windows xp, SP3, worked reasonably well, but was a bit slow booting up, typically taking about 30 minutes, to load everything up and settle down, judging from the intense hard disk activity. The motherboard can support up to 3GB (3 x 1GB) of SDRAM, so the obvious thing to try was a memory upgrade to the maximum supported, which I have done. The Kingston Memory 1GB was used as part of this. The system is still slow to boot up and settle down, but extra memory is usually a good idea, in a multi-tasking environment, so I am happy enough with the outcome.
