Truly, Madly, Deeply (BRAND NEW SEALED DVD, 2001) Juliet Stevenson Alan Rickman
    08 Dec, 2021
Beautiful, haunting, quirky, intelligent, funny, dramatic film!
This BBC TV film from 1991 is a brilliant piece of story telling. It has been in my top 10 list for many years. The script was written by Anthony Minghella specifically for Juliet Stevenson and superbly shows off this British actress's talents. Alan Rickman as her dead lover and cellist, Jamie, who comes back to her, is also first rate and the scenes between the two of them sparkle with such chemistry! Another standout is the less well known actor, Michael Maloney, who plays the quirky role of Nina's new love interest. The scene with the two of them as they each hop on one foot while telling each other their personal histories is a delight. The secondary leads are also wonderful, including the marvelous Bill Paterson as Nina's boss at the language agency. Music also plays a huge role in the film. Minghella loved Bach, so he wrote lots of it into the story. One of the most beautiful moments is Nina playing the piano part of a Bach piece, and then Jamie comes in with the cello part. It's haunting and lovely. There is also an extremely fun scene between the two of them when they play and sing the old pop tune, "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore" and features Nina dancing around the apartment, as Jamie plays for her. It's a quirky, unusual film that takes the viewer from light comedy to drama and back again, and we root for Nina from her first moments on screen to the last of the credits. In many places, the film has an improvised feel which is fresh and engaging, such as the moment when Nina's boss, Sandy and other workers at her dilapidated apartment do her dishes for her as she is outside hanging up her laundry. They all talk together about her situation and it feels completely unrehearsed and so like real life. This film has a lot to say about grief and grieving and apparently since the years of its release, many viewers have found the film to be comforting and helpful to them in their grieving process. I love this movie and it will forever have a place on my shelf!
Lauren Ralph Lauren Women Litchfield Loden Olive Down Puffer Hood Jacket Size M
    10 Mar, 2021
Long down winter jacket with insulated collar and hood
I lost my previous review, so this will have to be shorter.... I feel it's a terrific jacket. Very attractive. Warm and with lots of great features. I live in Vancouver, and since it just arrived and it's now March, I haven't had a chance to try it out in super cold weather, but my guess is that it will be an excellent addition to my winter wardrobe, thanks to the design and construction. I'm not a BRAND girl, so it didn't matter to me at all that it's a Ralph Lauren jacket. I was simply looking for some particular features and this jacket seems to have what I need. As to sizing, I am 5'5", with a slim frame, though ever so slightly pear-shaped. In the winter, I tend to be a size 8 on top and size 10 on the bottom. I generally wear a size M in shirts and outerwear. While I'm small busted, my shoulders and ribcage usually need more room, so I only wear a size S if it's active wear, yoga tops, that sit right next to the skin. Size: This jacket is size M and is quite roomy. In fact, I'm going to take it in, (I'm a seamstress) so that it fits more snugly. If I had tried this on in a store, I would have opted for a size S, but you never know how something will fit and with an online purchase, I definitely would never purchase a size S unless the seller suggested the item was larger than standard size. On my slim frame, this jacket fits me more like a size L. Colour: On my laptop screen, the photos of the jacket appear medium olive in tone. However, in real life, the jacket is much darker, a richer green, really beautiful. I am very happy about the colour, as this darker green suits my complexion better than if it had been the olive tone. Style: I really love the style of this jacket. It has a particular feature that I think is very attractive and I believe will be very warm. It has an inner half layer (that makes it look like you're wearing a matching vest) which is attached near the front opening of the jacket and zips up. This "vest" has a ribbed knit collar. The outer layer of the jacket then laps over and buttons over the "vest". The outer layer of the jacket has its own insulated collar and hood, which are attached right at the front opening of the jacket, rather than a regular hood which only is attached at the back. This collar and hood design will be fantastic in cold weather, as, when the hood is up, the puffy collar stands up right around your neck, so your whole head and neck area will be protected against any cold winter winds. There is also an extra layer attached near the edge of the sleeve with a ribbed knit cuff; the outer layer of the sleeve lies over this cuff. This will provide extra warmth, too, I'm sure. I can't wait to try it out this jacket in cold weather. If we get any severe weather this spring, I'll wear it. Otherwise, it will have to wait until next winter before I get to experience just how protective and useful a jacket this will be, but I have a feeling it's going to be a fantastic addition to my winter wardrobe, being reasonably lightweight, warm and attractive.
