OK but it has its limitations

This is OK, but has its problems. The mechanism is jumpy and sounds feeble. This is described variously as an auger mechanism, corkscrew action and having a dishwasher proof feed screw? Well what it actually is is a wheel that turns round with a recessed pocket in it. The food falls into the pocket which turns round to the food shoot side where it drops out. How that relates to the description I don't know but it does work if somewhat feebly. The product is described as having a weather resistant lid but that is as far as that goes, note there is no IP rating. Any rain protection comes from angles etc. as there are no seals. So as I needed to use it outside I secured a big bucket over the top and put it on a raised platform to protect it from the weather. That wasn't enough as the food shoot still got damp from the rain and when the fish food came out it stuck to the damp shoot and then backed up jamming the mechanism. I have now put a really big bucket over it and added a shield extending well over the shoot. Hopefully that will be enough. To be fair I expect a similar thing could happen to any similar design so if you want to put a fish feeder outside you probably need to consider a completely different style specifically designed for outdoor use, which will probably cost a lot more. Experiment with different fish foods to find one that doesn't stick when damp, or spend some time making a weatherproof cover for it.
