Revel 1/32 Red Arrows Hawk
Excellent model.
At the price there is very little to touch it (even better if you can buy it below £20.)
Detail is recessed and very crisp. Parts fit is very good. Just a few seams needing a little bit of filler or sanding back. Cockpit is good but is missing any sidewall detail (easy to rectify with bits of plastic strip). The seats are well detailed, but are missing the parachute packs on the top, and straps are decals so a bit 2D instead of 3D.
One minor gripe is that the model comes with no pilot. I contacted Revell and they came back saying most people build the model with the wheels down. All well and good but on the ground the flaps naturally droop and the elevators angle upwards at the front. In both cases the parts are not moveable so would be wrong.
Anyone know a good source of RAF pilot figures?
Decals are crisp and plentiful.
I'm building mine as the 2012 RAF Djsplay Hawk (in flight configuration) so I have a bit of work to do.
Like other people have commented, the red plastic is garish to work with. I sprayed every part grey before starting. Easier on the eye but another layer of paint to work through when glueing together. Next time round (2010 RAF Display Hawk) I will live with the red.
Excellent model straight from the box and a seriously good base for superdetailing. If you like the Dollphin you really must add this kit to your collection.
