Peter Appleyard ‎– Barbados Heat CD (1990 Vibes Jazz) Bucky Pizzarelli Guitar
    16 Oct, 2019
    Vibrophonic jazz fan
The late Peter Appleyard moved from England and settled in Toronto, Canada in the 1960's or 1970's I believe. That was Canada's gain and this vibraphonist always put out very classy albums. They can be hard to find but if you can get them they will delight you especially if you love the vibraphone in jazz. This is very classy music from a very talented musician. This album is Barbados Heat and their is a companion album called Barbados Cool, both recorded at a concert in Barbados but there is little audience noise and it all sounds great. Wonderful stuff.

I bought this to replace a broken CD and it reminded me of how good this saxophonist is. His Soul Makossa was a massive hit worldwide but he has made many, many albums since then and his funky and jazzy African rhythms never fail to sound so good. A full collection of Dibango's may run into 20 or 30 albums (at least) and this one is as good as any of them. Makes me smile every time I listen to it.
