Specialist label printer - good for certain tasks

The TLP2844 ( NOT the LP2844) is a thermal transfer printer. Originally intended for sticky labels - it can be repurposed for such printing functions as heatshrink and iron on fabric labels. These printers require some care - and careful choice of ribbon is important. Choose wax for general purpose printing - and wax/resin for a more permanent rub resistant print. The printer can accept an internal roll of labels - or allows for a roll fed from the back. The minimum media width is 12.7mm and the maximum around 100mm. This model appears to come in two forms - one with a parallel printer and usb interface - the other also includes rs232. The printer is no longer produced or supported by Zebra. Careful cleaning of the printhead with isopropanol is advised to keep print quality. The printer is fast - around 10cm per second. It can be sometimes troublesome to setup - and can go through lots of labels just getting it working okay. The media can either be single label feed - or continuous. ( I think this mode disables the individual label detect sensor ). Its a specialist printer - but for address labels - its quick. Print quality is okay at around 203dpi. The printer will also take thermal labels and not require the ribbon - but you may as well buy the cheaper LP2844 for that.

Poor QC - died after 10 days

Unit nice and loud. Easy to use. Was very happy until we missed a parcel delivery because the push button transmitter had failed. Would not recommend based on early failure.
